Unicameral increases deeds filing fees
LINCOLN - State lawmakers voted Tuesday to approve a 50-cent per $1,000 tax increase on real estate sales, amounting to an extra $75 on a $150,000 home, the World Herald reports. News reported that Senator Redfield initiated the bill to replenish the "Affordable Housing Trust Fund, used to build homes for low-income Nebraskans. It also would provide rent subsidies for mentally ill Nebraskans who otherwise would be homeless or relegated to jail or mental institutions."
Great another stealth tax on working people trying to own a home and to subsidize people who have not proven they can handle the responsibility to own a home.
Sadly this additional burden on parties to real estate transactions sailed though without any opposition.
